About this event

Doing your DofE Gold award but don’t have enough other people to run a Gold expedition? Maybe you can’t make the date that your group are having their expedition on? Why not join us for our open Gold expedition!

The dates for the expeditions and training sessions are:

  • Saturday 11th June 2022 – Initial meeting & expedition training, location to be confirmed so that it can be as accessible to the group as possible.
  • Friday 1st – Monday 4th July 2022 - Practice expedition, location to be confirmed but provisionally starting and finishing at Blair Atholl. This would also count as a Silver qualifier expedition, if required.
  • August – Assessed expedition, date and location to be confirmed as the group will decide on this.

Personal and group kit can be borrowed and this is included in the price of £150, but participants will need to provide their own food and transport to the start and end of each expedition. We will try our best to organise around good public transport locations, or match up car shares where possible.

Candidates should:

  • Be registered for Gold and be a current Girlguiding Scotland member
  • Be able to attend all the meetings, training and expeditions
  • Have already completed a first aid qualification or completed it by the time of the assessed expedition
  • Be fit enough to walk 4 hours per day in remote terrain, carrying their own kit

It would be preferable if candidates:

  • Had already completed a Bronze or Silver award
  • Had taken part in training or expeditions with Bronze or Silver groups if they are a direct Gold entrant

Additional Information

It is likely that there will be only 2 groups so it is advisable to book as soon as possible – there have already been many enquiries about the expedition. If you have any particular queries about the expedition, please email Elspeth on ggsdofead@gmail.com

Booking Process

Please complete this registration form. A member of staff will then be in touch with details for you to send a bank transfer covering the £30 deposit. Bookings close as soon as the expedition is full, or on 1 May 2022. A first balance payment of £60 will be due on or before 25 May 2022 and a final balance payment of £60 will be due on or before 25 June 2022.

  • Participants must be fit enough to walk 4 hours a day in remote terrain, carrying their own kit.
  • Participants will be required to follow any Covid-19 guidance in place at the time of the events.

  • The full fee of £150 does not include food or travel to and from the training and expeditions.
  • If for any reason Girlguiding Scotland has to cancel any of the 3 stages, we will rearrange the dates wherever possible. Where all 3 stages have to be cancelled and it is not possible to rearrange the dates, you will receive a full refund.
  • If you cancel or drop out of the process you will not receive your non-refundable deposit back. If you cancel within 30 days of the expedition you will not receive any money back and will be liable for the full cost of the event (£150).
  • If the event comes in significantly under budget then the remaining budget will be split equally amongst the participants and refunded. If the amount is not enough to split equally then the participants can decide together on a charity for the remaining budget to be donated to.
